# Does teaching about PMS improve girls' knowledge about how to manage it?

Yes. After a structured teaching program, many more adolescent girls had good knowledge about PMS and its management than before the program.

 Moderate study design

60 adolescent girls in selected schools in Tarn Taran, India

## What they did

Quasi-experimental study with 60 adolescent girls. Girls answered questions about their PMS knowledge before and after a structured teaching program about PMS and how to manage it.

## What they found

Before the program: 1.66% had adequate knowledge, 40% had moderate knowledge, and 58.3% had inadequate knowledge. After the program: 26.6% had adequate knowledge, 60% had moderate knowledge, and 13.3% had inadequate knowledge. The improvement was clear.

## What it means for you

Structured teaching programs can improve how much adolescent girls know about PMS and its management. The study was in schools in one area, so results may differ in other places or with different teaching methods. The study had no control group to compare.
