# Did COVID-19 infection change women's menstrual cycles?

More than three-quarters of women reported changes to their menstrual cycles during the COVID-19 pandemic, including changes in cycle length, bleeding duration, or premenstrual symptoms.

 Early or limited evidence

155 women in Mumbai (during the second wave of COVID-19)

## What they did

Online survey conducted from April to September 2021 of 155 women, asking about changes to their menstrual cycles after COVID-19 infection.

## What they found

78% reported changes in their menstrual cycles. These changes included changes in cycle length, duration of bleeding, or premenstrual symptoms.

## What it means for you

COVID-19 and pandemic-related stress may disrupt menstrual cycles, but the study cannot separate the virus from the stress caused by the pandemic. Limited to women in Mumbai with internet access.
