# When women suspected of having PMDD are tracked for 3 months, how many actually meet the full criteria?

About two-thirds (65.3%) of women with suspected PMDD actually met the full criteria for PMDD when their symptoms were tracked for 3 months.

 Moderate study design

95 women with suspected PMDD, 64 control women

## What they did

Tracked 95 women with suspected PMDD and 64 control women for 3 months using daily symptom calendars. Researchers also measured psychological pain and anxiety sensitivity in all participants.

## What they found

65.3% of women with suspected PMDD met the full criteria for permanent PMDD. Women with confirmed PMDD had higher psychological pain and anxiety sensitivity than control women. Painful periods were more common in the suspected PMDD group but not in the permanent PMDD group.

## What it means for you

More than half of women thought to have PMDD actually have it when tracked properly. Daily tracking over months is important for confirming PMDD diagnosis. The main limitation is this was done in one hospital in one country.
