# Does living location and life conditions affect PMS symptoms?

Yes. People who migrated to new areas reported more PMS cases but with milder symptoms, compared to those who stayed in their original location. Both groups differed in jobs, education, wealth, diet, and body measurements.

## What they did

Researchers studied 501 adolescents from the Oraon ethnic group in Eastern India, comparing 301 who migrated to new areas with 200 who stayed in their original location. They measured PMS and compared differences in job, education, wealth, diet, body size, and menstrual history.

## What they found

More migrants reported PMS, but symptoms were milder than in those who stayed. The groups differed in job status, education, wealth, religion, diet (carbohydrates, proteins, fats, tea), body size and fat distribution, age at first period, period length, period pain, and anemia status.

## What it means for you

Living conditions and lifestyle differences appear linked to how common and severe PMS is. However, since this compares two populations with different conditions, we cannot determine which specific factor (migration, diet, economics, or something else) actually causes the differences.
