# Does individualized nutrition therapy help women with PMS improve symptoms and health?

This small exploratory study found improvements in PMS symptoms, mood, and other health measures. However, because there was no control group, we cannot be certain that nutrition therapy caused these improvements rather than other factors.

 Early or limited evidence

44 overweight or obese women aged 25–49 years with PMS

## What they did

An exploratory study of 44 overweight or obese women aged 25 to 49 years with PMS. All participants received individualized nutrition therapy for 8 weeks. Researchers measured PMS symptoms, mood, concentration, stomach symptoms, and metabolic markers at the start and after 8 weeks.

## What they found

PMS symptom scores decreased significantly from 116.11 at baseline to 96.52 at week 8, a decrease of 19.59 points. Improvements were also seen in mood, concentration, and stomach symptoms. Some weight-related measures also changed.

## What it means for you

Individualized nutrition therapy may help improve PMS symptoms and related health outcomes. However, without a comparison group, we cannot confirm nutrition therapy caused the improvements. Larger randomized controlled trials with better tracking of adherence are needed.
