Survey study, 2016

# Does PMS affect how satisfied nurses feel with their work?

Yes. Nurses with PMS reported lower overall work satisfaction and lower scores on most work-related quality measures compared to nurses without PMS. The connection was statistically significant.

 Early or limited evidence

134 Turkish nurses, average age 29.5 ± 7.1 years

## What they did

A cross-sectional study of 134 Turkish nurses who completed questionnaires about PMS symptoms and work-related quality of life between January and March 2015.

## What they found

38.1% of nurses had PMS. PMS scores were negatively correlated with overall work quality of life (r = -0.341, p < 0.001). All work quality subscales except stress at work were significantly lower in nurses with PMS compared to those without.

## What it means for you

PMS appears to reduce work satisfaction and productivity. The study was limited to nurses in Turkey, so findings may not apply to other jobs or countries.
