# What factors are associated with PMS in emergency room nurses?

PMS was common in ED nurses at 67.47%. Women with higher occupational stress, higher anxiety, lower education level, younger age, and higher BMI were more likely to have PMS.

 Early or limited evidence

289 female emergency department nurses in China

## What they did

Cross-sectional study of 289 female emergency nurses in China. Data was collected on PMS symptoms, occupational stress, social support, and anxiety over 2 months using standardized questionnaires.

## What they found

67.47% of the nurses had PMS. The most common symptoms were tiredness and anger (76.90% each), followed by restlessness (75.40%) and snoring (69.20%). Occupational stress score and anxiety score were higher in nurses with PMS. Education level was lower in the PMS group.

## What it means for you

Occupational stress and anxiety may be connected to PMS symptoms in emergency nurses. The study shows association but does not prove these factors cause PMS. Results are limited to emergency nurses in China and may not apply to other work settings or countries.
