# What psychological factors predict PMS in nursing students?

Resilience (the ability to bounce back from stress) was the strongest predictor of PMS, with better resilience linked to fewer symptoms. Menstrual attitude also predicted PMS severity.

 Early or limited evidence

154 nursing students in two South Korean cities

## What they did

Survey of 154 nursing students about their menstrual attitude, resilience, and PMS symptoms. Researchers used statistical analysis to identify which factors best predicted PMS.

## What they found

Menstrual attitude and resilience together explained 20.5% of the variation in PMS symptoms. Resilience was identified as the key factor predicting PMS. Better resilience was associated with less PMS.

## What it means for you

How women think about their periods and their ability to cope with stress may influence PMS symptoms. The study explains only 20.5% of PMS variation, meaning other factors are important. Results are limited to a small group of nursing students and may not apply to other women.
