# What affects quality of life in nursing students with premenstrual syndrome?

Premenstrual syndrome is the strongest factor affecting quality of life in nursing students, though being younger and eating bland food also matter. These three factors explain 17.6% of why quality of life varies, so other things are important too.

135 nursing students

## What they did

Researchers surveyed 135 nursing students about their menstrual attitudes, premenstrual syndrome symptoms, and how they cope with stress. They looked at which factors predicted quality of life.

## What they found

Premenstrual syndrome was the most important factor affecting quality of life, followed by being younger than 20 years old and eating bland food regularly. Together, these three factors explained 17.6% of the differences in quality of life between students.

## What it means for you

For nursing students, managing premenstrual syndrome symptoms may be important for improving quality of life. Since these factors only explain 17.6% of quality of life differences, many other things (like workload, sleep, relationships) also matter. The study suggests that educational programs about managing PMS could help nursing students feel better, but more research is needed.
