# What factors affect PMS symptoms in college women?

Fatigue, severe period pain, and exposure to chemicals that may interfere with hormones all affect PMS. Together, these three factors explained 30.8% of the differences in PMS symptoms between women.

 Early or limited evidence

201 female college students in South Korea

## What they did

Asked 201 female college students online about their fatigue, diet, exposure to chemicals that may interfere with hormones, and PMS symptoms. The survey ran from July 26 to August 19, 2024.

## What they found

Women with more fatigue had more PMS. Women with severe period pain had more PMS. Women exposed to more chemicals that may interfere with hormones had more PMS.

## What it means for you

Fatigue, pain, and chemical exposure are linked to PMS, but the study doesn't prove they cause it. The study was only at one college in South Korea, so these findings may not apply to all women.
