# Can peer health education help young women manage PMS?

Yes. Peer education using counseling techniques reduced anxiety about PMS in high school students, with 54.5% very satisfied and 41.6% satisfied with the education.

 Early or limited evidence

High school female students in Indonesia

## What they did

Peer educators taught high school girls about reproductive health and PMS in small groups using counseling communication techniques. The education was delivered online and offline. Anxiety levels and satisfaction were measured before and after.

## What they found

Most girls were not anxious about PMS after peer education, though 10.4% had severe anxiety and 1.3% had very severe anxiety before it. 54.5% were very satisfied with the online education and 41.6% satisfied. 53.2% were very satisfied with how facilitators communicated.

## What it means for you

Having peers educate you about PMS using proper communication techniques can reduce worry about it. The main limits are that we don't know the exact number of girls studied and there was no comparison group to see if the education actually caused the improvement.

54.5%

very satisfied with education

10.4%

severe anxiety before education

53.2%

satisfied with facilitator
