# Does PMS affect quality of life in healthcare workers?

Yes, quality of life is significantly reduced in healthcare workers with PMS, especially when symptoms are more severe. Quality of life is also worse in women who are older, work certain job types, are married, or have irregular cycles.

 Moderate study design

493 healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, technicians) in India.

## What they did

Cross-sectional study of 493 healthcare professionals in India. Participants completed questionnaires measuring PMS symptoms and quality of life, and researchers looked for associations between them.

## What they found

Out of 493 healthcare workers, 253 had PMS. Workers with more severe PMS symptoms had significantly worse quality of life. Quality of life was also significantly worse in women who were older, had certain occupations, were married, had irregular menstrual cycles, or had more severe PMS symptoms.

## What it means for you

This shows that PMS definitely affects how healthcare workers feel about their daily life, and the effect gets stronger with more severe symptoms. The main limits are that this is from one hospital in India so results may differ elsewhere, and the study shows these factors go together but doesn't prove PMS causes the reduced quality of life.
