# How common is PMS in working women, and do they know about it?

Between 38% and 74% of working women have PMS depending on which diagnostic criteria are used. Most women did not know what PMS was and rarely saw doctors about it.

 Moderate study design

289 working women in Bucheon City, South Korea

## What they did

Cross-sectional questionnaire survey of 289 working women in South Korea about menstrual symptoms, PMS, and whether they sought treatment.

## What they found

74% met WHO criteria for PMS and 38% met American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists criteria. Most common symptoms were bloating, anger, weight gain, sleep problems, trouble concentrating, drowsiness, nausea and vomiting. 94.1% had no knowledge about PMS terminology. Most did not consult physicians.

## What it means for you

PMS is very common in working women but most don't recognize it as a medical condition or get help. Doctors need to educate women better about PMS so they can improve their quality of life.
