# How common are PMS and PMDD among medical students?

PMS was found in 45% and PMDD in 33.6%. Confidence is moderate because this is one small study from India.

 Early or limited evidence

238 female medical students in India, mean age 20.93 years

## What they did

Cross-sectional survey of 238 female medical students using a validated questionnaire distributed online via Google Forms.

## What they found

PMS was found in 107 of 238 students (45%) and PMDD in 80 (33.6%). Of 72 students (30.3%) who exercised regularly, 14 (19.5%) improved, 15 (20.8%) worsened, and 43 (59.7%) saw no change. Of 10 sexually active students (4.2%), 4 (40%) improved, 1 (10%) worsened, and 5 (50%) had no change.

## What it means for you

About half of these medical students have PMS. Exercise and sexual activity did not reliably improve symptoms in this study. Results are limited to one group of students in India.
