# How common is premenstrual syndrome in women of reproductive age?

Very common. This study of 133 female nursing students found all had mild to moderate PMS symptoms, with a mean score of 99.62. However, results may not apply to all women since participants were only nursing students.

 Early or limited evidence

133 female nursing students in reproductive age group, mostly 19-20 years old

## What they did

Cross-sectional survey of 133 female nursing students using a structured questionnaire and rating scale. Researchers measured physiological, behavioral, and psychological symptoms.

## What they found

Mean PMS symptom score was 99.62 with standard deviation 27.31. Mild to moderate symptoms were present across all three domains. 79.70% had regular cycles, 60.15% were aged 19-20, and 63.16% had a family history of PMS.

## What it means for you

Young women commonly experience mild to moderate PMS symptoms across physical, mood, and behavior. The study was small and limited to one nursing college. Family history was common but not statistically linked to symptom severity.
