# Is physical activity linked to less PMS?

In 500 college students, overall PMS severity was not significantly linked to physical activity levels. However, behavioral symptoms of PMS were significantly linked to activity levels.

 Early or limited evidence

500 female college students aged 18-30

## What they did

Cross-sectional study of 500 female college students aged 18-30. Measured demographics, PMS severity, and physical activity levels using questionnaires.

## What they found

Mean age 21 years. 59.6% had normal BMI. 58.6% had low physical activity, and 41% experienced moderate PMS severity. Significant correlation found between behavioral symptoms and physical activity (p<0.05), but no significant correlation between overall PMS and physical activity.

## What it means for you

Exercise may help with behavioral aspects of PMS such as mood changes, but may not affect the overall PMS syndrome. Limited by observational design and inability to prove cause and effect.

58.6%

Had low physical activity

41%

Had moderate PMS severity

p<0.05

Behavioral symptoms linked to activity
