102 women with professional PMDD diagnosis and 110 comparison women from worldwide internet forums

## What they did

Researchers created an online survey distributed through four internet forums worldwide. One group consisted of 102 women with professional PMDD diagnosis. Through control questions, they identified a second group of 110 women without professional diagnosis for comparison.

## What they found

Women with professional PMDD diagnosis reported symptoms that closely matched descriptions in medical literature. Women without professional diagnosis showed different patterns, suggesting that women seeking help on online forums differ from other women with similar symptoms.

## What it means for you

The study created a profile of women with PMDD who use internet forums. However, the sample is not representative of all women with this condition since participants were self-selected online. The findings show the importance of careful survey design and question verification when researching online.
