# Can group counseling focused on positive psychology reduce PMS symptoms?

Yes. Women who attended six online counseling sessions focusing on positive psychology had significantly lower PMS symptoms immediately and two months later compared to a control group.

 Moderate study design

Women with PMS in intervention and control groups

## What they did

Randomized trial. The intervention group attended six online group counseling sessions via WhatsApp focused on positive psychology. The control group did not receive counseling. Women answered a PMS symptom questionnaire before treatment, immediately after, and two months later.

## What they found

The intervention group's average PMS symptom score fell from 21.60 to 13.35 immediately after treatment and was 14.750 two months later. The control group showed no significant change. The effect was statistically significant (p = 0.001). The score did not improve further between the immediate and two-month measurements.

## What it means for you

Online positive psychology counseling can reduce PMS symptoms in the short term. This approach is accessible via WhatsApp, which is practical for many women. The study does not report long-term follow-up beyond two months, and the exact sample size is not specified in the abstract.
