# Does health education help women cope with PMS?

Yes, a health education programme significantly reduced PMS symptoms more than no education. Women who received the education had much lower symptom scores by the second and third months.

 Moderate study design

60 women in late adolescence with PMS.

## What they did

A trial with 30 women in each group (education and no education). The education group received a Health Belief Model-based programme designed to help them cope with PMS. Both groups were tracked for three menstrual cycles and filled out symptom scales.

## What they found

Women in the education group showed significant symptom improvements compared to baseline after the first cycle, and further improvements after the second and third cycles. Their symptom scores were significantly lower than the control group by the second and third follow-ups.

## What it means for you

Health education can help women manage PMS symptoms better, likely by helping them understand and cope with the condition. This is a small study limited to adolescents, so results may not apply to all ages.
