# Does training based on health promotion model reduce PMS symptoms, emotional eating, and stress?

Training reduced fatigue and depressive thoughts related to PMS, but did not significantly improve overall emotional eating or perceived stress.

 Moderate study design

86 nursing and midwifery students in eastern Turkey with PMS

## What they did

Randomized controlled trial with 86 nursing and midwifery students in Turkey who had PMS. The intervention group received an 8-week training program using the health promotion model and group discussion; the control group did not. Researchers measured PMS symptoms, emotional eating, stress, and eating habits before and after.

## What they found

The training significantly reduced fatigue (p = 0.018) and depressive thoughts (p = 0.004) on the PMS scale, and improved overall PMS scores (p = 0.011). Women in the training group also made healthier food choices. However, overall emotional eating and perceived stress did not improve significantly. Notably, stress scores favored the control group.

## What it means for you

A targeted training program can reduce specific PMS symptoms like fatigue and mood problems, and may improve eating habits. However, it did not reduce overall stress levels. The study was limited to nursing and midwifery students in one Turkish university, and the abstract provided is incomplete.
