# Does PMS nutrition education help college students with PMS?

Students who received 8 weeks of nutrition education showed significant increases in PMS knowledge and self health behavior compared to control students.

 Early or limited evidence

56 nursing students (29 education group, 27 control)

## What they did

56 nursing students participated: 29 in an education group and 27 in a control group. The education group attended 8 weeks of PMS nutrition education with group and individual sessions. PMS knowledge, premenstrual symptoms, and self health behavior were measured before and after.

## What they found

After the intervention, the education group showed significant increases in PMS knowledge and self health behavior compared to the control group.

## What it means for you

Nutrition education can increase PMS knowledge and self-reported healthy behavior in nursing students. The study is short term and small. It does not report whether actual premenstrual symptoms decreased.
