# Does yoga help reduce pain and fatigue in women with premenstrual syndrome?

Yes. Women who did yoga had significantly greater reductions in pain and fatigue after 8 weeks compared to a control group.

 Moderate study design

30 women with PMS aged 18 to 45

## What they did

Researchers randomly assigned 30 women with PMS to two groups. The yoga group (15 women) did yogasanas and breathing exercises under supervision. The control group (15 women) received the same written instructions to follow at home. Both groups were measured at the start, after 4 weeks, and after 8 weeks for pain and fatigue.

## What they found

Both groups showed reduced pain and fatigue by 8 weeks. When the groups were compared, the yoga group had significantly greater reductions in pain and fatigue scores at 8 weeks compared to the control group.

## What it means for you

Supervised yoga reduces pelvic pain and fatigue in women with PMS more than written instructions alone. This suggests yoga is a helpful option without side effects of medication. The study is small and did not include women without PMS as a comparison, so findings need confirmation in larger studies.
