Can dermatitis herpetiformis get worse before menstruation?
Yes. One woman with this blistering skin condition had worsening rashes 5 days before her period through the end of menstruation, and needed to increase her medication during this time.
What they did
Doctors described one 29-year-old woman with a blistering skin condition on her face and upper body.
What they found
Her rash got worse 5 days before menstruation and continued through menstruation. During this time, she needed to increase her medication from 25 mg/day to 50 mg/day to keep the rash controlled.
What it means for you
This skin condition may get worse before menstruation, and doctors may need to adjust treatment dose during the menstrual cycle. The main limit is that this is one woman's experience and we don't know if all women with this condition experience this.
