Randomised trial, 2019
Does individually prescribed homeopathic treatment help PMS?
Yes, homeopathic medicine reduced PMS symptoms more than placebo. The improvement was small but statistically significant (p=0.043).
What they did
105 women with PMS in Jerusalem were screened for 2 months with daily symptom tracking, then randomly given either individualized homeopathic medicine based on their symptom patterns or placebo.
What they found
The active medicine group's symptoms improved more than placebo. Average daily symptom scores fell from 0.443 to 0.287 in the homeopathy group, compared to 0.426 to 0.340 in placebo.
What it means for you
Homeopathic medicine tailored to individual symptoms may help PMS better than placebo, but the difference was modest. This was a small single-site study from 1996-1999, so larger studies in other places are needed.
