Survey study, 2012
What health conditions occur with menstrual migraine?
The research is unclear. While many studies have found various health conditions associated with migraine in general, very few have specifically examined what conditions occur with menstrual migraine.
What they did
This is a review of published research on health conditions that commonly occur together with migraine, with focus on women and menstrual migraine.
What they found
Many studies have documented associations between migraine and various other diseases. However, very few studies have analyzed the comorbidity (co-occurrence) of perimenstrual migraine specifically. Most research on migraine comorbidities focuses on migraine without aura in women.
What it means for you
We do not yet know what other health problems commonly occur with menstrual migraine. This represents an important research gap. The main limitation is that the abstract only identifies what is not known rather than reporting specific findings.
