Do auriculotherapy and vitamin B6 both reduce PMS symptoms?
Yes, both auriculotherapy and 40mg daily vitamin B6 reduced PMS symptoms significantly and equally. This is a small study with 42 women per treatment group.
What they did
Randomly assigned 84 female students into two groups of 42 each. One group received 10 sessions of auriculotherapy over two menstrual cycles. The other group took 40mg vitamin B6 daily starting one week before menstruation for two cycles. Symptoms were measured before and after treatment.
What they found
Both groups showed significant symptom reduction (p=0.001). Auriculotherapy group mean symptom scores decreased from 26.70 to 24.76 across the cycles. Vitamin B6 group scores changed from 22.60 to 24.17. There was no significant difference in symptom reduction between the two treatments.
What it means for you
Both treatments reduced PMS symptoms equally. However, the vitamin B6 group started with lower baseline symptoms. This is a small study, so results need confirmation in larger groups.
