Interview study, 2022

Can researchers create a tool to measure how PMS affects women's quality of life?

Researchers developed and validated a tool designed specifically to measure quality of life in women with PMS using interviews with 21 women and testing with 440 women. The abstract does not describe what specific quality-of-life issues the tool measures.

What they did

Two-phase exploratory study in Tehran during 2017-2018. Phase 1: 21 women with PMS participated in in-depth interviews analyzed for themes. Phase 2: 440 women completed a cross-sectional study to validate the newly designed tool.

What they found

Researchers designed a tool based on themes from interviews with 21 women with PMS. They then validated this tool with 440 women with PMS. Items came from interviews, existing texts, and other tools, with overlapping items removed.

What it means for you

Researchers created a new tool specifically designed to measure how PMS affects women's quality of life. The main limitation is that the abstract does not describe what specific quality-of-life issues the tool measures, so we do not know what aspects of life it covers.
