Does psychoeducation with psychodrama techniques reduce PMS symptoms?
Yes. Women who participated in 7 sessions of psychoeducation and psychodrama had significantly lower PMS symptom scores, especially for depression, fatigue, irritability, and sleep problems.
What they did
Randomized controlled trial with 32 women. Half received 7 sessions of psychoeducation based on cognitive-behavioral psychodrama techniques, while half received no intervention. Both groups were measured before and after using the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale.
What they found
The intervention group had significantly lower PMS symptom scores after treatment, particularly for depressive mood, fatigue, irritability, depressive thoughts, appetite changes, and sleep habit changes.
What it means for you
Psychoeducation with psychodrama may help reduce PMS symptoms. The sample was very small, so larger studies are needed to confirm the findings.
