Survey study, 2023
Does pelvic alignment exercise help with period pain and PMS symptoms?
Yes, for some symptoms. The exercise program reduced period pain and improved mood-related PMS symptoms, and also improved pelvic positioning.
What they did
17 women with period pain were split into two groups. 12 did a pelvic alignment exercise program 3 times a week for 12 weeks. 5 did no program. Period pain, PMS symptoms, and pelvic alignment were measured before and after.
What they found
Women in the exercise group had less severe period pain and improvements in mood and behavior-related PMS symptoms. Their pelvic positioning also improved. No clear differences were found in concentration, automatic body reactions, or water retention.
What it means for you
Pelvic alignment exercises may help women with period pain and some PMS symptoms. The study included only 17 women with a very small control group, so larger studies are needed to confirm these findings.
