Study, 1999
Does hormone treatment help women with period problems?
Yes. Of 201 women who received GnRH treatment, 74% reported it helped them.
What they did
Reviewed medical records from 201 women who attended a menstrual disorders clinic over five years and received a GnRH analogue treatment. They looked back at the records to see whether treatment helped.
What they found
74% reported the treatment helped. Among all the women studied, 26% had premenstrual symptoms. Of the women with premenstrual symptoms who benefited, 41% eventually had surgery to fully solve their problem.
What it means for you
GnRH treatment helps many women with period problems. Main limit: reviewed past records only, so it is not clear which women will benefit before starting treatment.
