Does PMS affect sleep quality?

Yes. Women with PMS had worse sleep quality, including taking longer to fall asleep and feeling tired during the day. The more severe the PMS symptoms, the worse the sleep problems.

Early or limited evidence 252 nursing students in Turkey, average age 21

What they did

Researchers asked 252 nursing students in Turkey to fill out questionnaires about PMS symptoms and sleep quality.

What they found

79.3% had pain during menstruation. Among those with PMS, 56% had appetite changes and 50.8% had bloating. Women with more severe PMS symptoms had worse sleep quality overall.
