Survey study, 2016

Does learning about PMS change how women feel about it or how they manage it?

No. There was no clear relationship between how much women know about PMS and their attitudes about it or how they manage their symptoms.

Early or limited evidence 150 nursing students in Rangkasbitung, Indonesia

What they did

Researchers studied 150 nursing students in Rangkasbitung, Indonesia using questionnaires. They measured knowledge about PMS, attitudes toward PMS, and behaviors for managing PMS symptoms.

What they found

There was no significant relationship between knowledge about PMS and attitudes about PMS, and no significant relationship between these and how women manage their symptoms.

What it means for you

Knowing more about PMS does not automatically change how women feel about it or how they manage it. This suggests that education alone might not be enough to help women with PMS. This was a small study done in one nursing school, so the results may not apply to all women.
