Is the PSST a good screening tool for PMS in Bangladesh?
Yes, the Bangladeshi version of the PSST was found to be valid and reliable for screening PMS, with strong correlations to depression, anxiety, and stress.
What they did
Cross-sectional study among 939 girls aged 11-19 in Bangladesh from April to October 2022. They answered questionnaires about their menstrual history, depression, anxiety, stress, and PMS symptoms using the PSST and DASS-21 scales.
What they found
33.16% of girls had moderate to severe PMS and 19.05% had PMDD. The Bangladeshi PSST had excellent internal consistency with Cronbach alpha of 0.96. The total PSST score was positively correlated with depression (r=0.54), anxiety (r=0.50), and stress (r=0.50).
What it means for you
The PSST is a valid screening tool for PMS in Bangladesh and can help identify girls needing support. However, the study included only adolescents in Bangladesh, so results may differ in other ages and countries.
