Survey study, 2025

Does PMS affect women's life satisfaction, and what factors help?

Yes, PMS significantly affects life satisfaction. Exercise habits, employment status, and how women cope with PMS symptoms all influence their satisfaction.

Moderate study design 379 women studied in phase two of scale development

What they did

Two-phase study. Phase one developed a 15-item life satisfaction scale in 158 women; phase two tested it in 379 women. Researchers used statistical methods to check if the scale measured what it should and identified factors linked to life satisfaction.

What they found

The 15-item scale with three subscales had excellent reliability (Cronbach alpha 0.880 and McDonald's omega 0.885) and good fit to the data. Life satisfaction was significantly linked to employment status, exercise habits, chronic disease diagnosis, and PMS coping methods.

What it means for you

PMS affects quality of life, and lifestyle factors like exercise matter. However, this is a tool development study, not a test of treatments, so we cannot say exercise will improve PMS-related life satisfaction.
