Survey study, 2021

Does resilience help women with PMS maintain quality of life?

Yes. Resilience (the ability to bounce back) was linked to better quality of life. Resilience partially explained why premenstrual discomfort was linked to lower quality of life.

Early or limited evidence 110 female college students from a university in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea

What they did

110 female college students completed questionnaires measuring premenstrual discomfort, resilience, and health-related quality of life. Researchers looked at how these factors related and whether resilience helped protect quality of life.

What they found

Premenstrual discomfort was linked to lower quality of life. Resilience was linked to both less premenstrual discomfort and better quality of life. Resilience partially explained the relationship between premenstrual discomfort and quality of life.

What it means for you

Building resilience might help women with PMS maintain better quality of life. This was a small study from one university in South Korea, so results may vary in other groups.
