Does vitamin B complex reduce PMS symptoms?
In this study, vitamin B complex reduced PMS symptoms significantly. Without a control group for comparison, we cannot be certain the vitamin caused the improvement.
What they did
Before-and-after study of 30 first-year midwifery students with PMS in Indonesia. Students were given vitamin B complex and their PMS symptoms were measured before and after using questionnaires and interviews.
What they found
Average PMS symptom score before vitamin B complex was 38.43. After vitamin B complex, it was 22.37. The difference was statistically significant with p=0.000.
What it means for you
Vitamin B complex may help PMS symptoms, possibly by supporting serotonin production in the brain. However, this study was small with no control group, so the improvement could be from other causes like placebo effect or natural changes in symptoms. We cannot determine the dose or length of treatment from the abstract.
