Does acupressure reduce PMS severity in adolescent girls?

The study suggests acupressure may reduce PMS severity, but the available information does not clearly state how much improvement occurred.

Early or limited evidence 31 adolescent girls with regular menstrual cycles

What they did

31 adolescent girls with regular menstrual cycles received acupressure therapy. Acupressure is thought to work by releasing natural pain-relieving chemicals called endorphins that can reduce symptoms. Symptom severity was measured before and after treatment.

What they found

A clear difference in PMS severity was found.

What it means for you

The study suggests acupressure may help reduce PMS symptoms. However, the study had no comparison group, so we cannot know whether improvement was due to acupressure or other factors like time passing. We also do not know how large the improvement was.
