Survey study, 2024
How many nursing students have severe PMS?
More than half of nursing students in this study had severe PMS (56%), though this is from one school in Indonesia and may not apply elsewhere.
What they did
This survey included 77 nursing students at a polytechnic in Indonesia. Students completed questionnaires about PMS symptoms using a Likert scale, done online. Researchers measured the severity of PMS.
What they found
Of the 77 students, 43 (56%) had severe PMS. The study also notes that in general, about 75% of women report some PMS symptoms and 30% need treatment.
What it means for you
Severe PMS is common in female nursing students and can affect mental health and daily activities. However, this small study from one school doesn't explain why some students have worse symptoms or how to help them.
