Survey study, 2016
How common is PMS among working women in Bangkok and how much does it affect their lives?
About 11.4% of working women in Bangkok have moderate to severe PMS. Younger women are more likely to experience PMS than older women.
What they did
Researchers recruited 114 working women from a skincare company in Bangkok (average age 34.5 years) between July and August 2016. The women filled out questionnaires about premenstrual symptoms and their quality of life.
What they found
11.4% of the women had moderate to severe PMS, while 88.6% had mild or no PMS. Younger age was associated with having more PMS symptoms.
What it means for you
PMS is less common in this working population than in some student populations studied in Thailand. The finding that younger women have more PMS might mean symptoms improve with age, or younger women might be more aware of their symptoms. This was a small study from one company in Bangkok, so results may not apply broadly to all working women.
