Is PMS linked to perfectionism and anxiety in college students?
Yes, but the link differs by student type. In nursing students, PMS is linked to both perfectionism and anxiety. In general students, it is only linked to anxiety.
What they did
Cross-sectional survey of 215 college students (nursing and general). PMS was measured with the Menstrual Distress Questionnaire, perfectionism with the Almost Perfect Scale-Revised, and anxiety with the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory.
What they found
Nursing students had significantly higher PMS and perfectionism than general students, but anxiety did not differ between groups. In nursing students, PMS was significantly correlated with both perfectionism and anxiety. In general students, PMS was correlated with anxiety only, not perfectionism.
What it means for you
The link between PMS and perfectionism may depend on job or study stress. This is a small survey from one country and did not measure cause and effect.
