Does doing art activities help reduce PMS symptoms?
Yes. Women who participated in weekly art activities for 8 weeks had significant improvements in PMS symptoms, while the control group showed no change.
What they did
An 8-week trial in Turkey with 72 midwifery students with PMS. One group (37 women) did weekly art activities, the other (35 women) continued their normal routines. Symptoms were measured before and after 8 weeks.
What they found
The art group's PMS symptoms significantly decreased over 8 weeks, while the control group's symptoms did not improve.
What it means for you
Art-based activities may help reduce PMS symptoms. However, this study only included midwifery students, so results may not apply to all women. The study did not compare art to other treatments, only to no treatment.
