Randomised trial, 2021

Does education and acupressure help reduce PMS symptoms and improve quality of life?

Yes. Women who received health belief model-based education and acupressure, or education alone, both showed significant improvements in PMS symptoms and quality of life compared to a control group.

Moderate study design 163 women with PMS

What they did

163 women were assigned to three groups: one receiving health belief model-based education plus acupressure, one receiving education only, and one receiving no intervention. They were measured before and after.

What they found

Both the education-plus-acupressure group and the education-only group had significantly better PMS symptom scores and quality of life compared to the control group (P < .001).

What it means for you

Both education about PMS and acupressure, particularly together, can reduce symptoms and improve quality of life. The study did not directly compare the two intervention groups, so it is unclear whether acupressure added benefit beyond education alone.
