Survey study, 2025
What level of anxiety do adolescent girls experience when they have PMS?
Most adolescent girls with PMS have low anxiety (76.7%), even though many have moderate to severe PMS symptoms. Certainty is low because this is a small study.
What they did
Cross-sectional study of 30 adolescent girls, mostly aged 18-21, who completed a PMS symptom checklist and the Beck Anxiety Inventory questionnaire.
What they found
By PMS severity: 36.7% moderate, 36.7% severe, 26.7% mild. By anxiety level: 76.7% low anxiety, 16.7% moderate anxiety, 6.6% high anxiety.
What it means for you
Most girls with moderate to severe PMS do not develop significant anxiety about it. This is useful for counseling. However, the study was small and limited to Indonesia only.
