Survey study, 2024

Do women with PMS have worse balance, reaction time, and coordination than women without PMS?

Yes, women with PMS showed significantly worse proprioception, reaction time, and coordination in all directions tested (all p<0.05).

Early or limited evidence 998 women aged 18-40, some with PMS and some without

What they did

Cross-sectional study comparing balance, reaction time, and coordination between 998 women aged 18-40 with and without PMS using specialized balance and coordination tests.

What they found

Significant differences appeared in all measures (p<0.05). Women with PMS had worse proprioception in front, back, right, and left directions, slower reaction times in all directions, and worse coordination in both legs compared to women without PMS.

What it means for you

Women with PMS may have problems with balance and coordination that could affect daily activities, but this is just an association. We cannot tell if PMS causes these problems or if something else connects them.
