Does better diet knowledge and practice reduce PMS in adolescent girls?
The study found a moderate positive correlation between diet practice and PMS occurrence. The abstract does not clearly explain whether better diet practices reduce symptoms or if girls with more symptoms practice more dietary approaches.
What they did
Cross-sectional study of 60 adolescent girls at a college. Researchers assessed knowledge about diet and PMS using questionnaires and checklists, and identified whether girls had PMS.
What they found
62% (n=37) had poor knowledge about diet and PMS, 33% (n=20) had good knowledge, and 5% (n=3) had very good knowledge. Diet practice on PMS was moderately positively correlated with PMS occurrence.
What it means for you
Many adolescent girls lack knowledge about diet and PMS. The relationship between diet practice and PMS is unclear. The sample is very small and the finding may not apply to other groups.
