How does Jingqianshu Granules help PMDD?
This laboratory and animal study shows the medicine may work through changes in brain chemicals and reduction of brain inflammation. Results cannot yet be confirmed in women with PMDD.
What they did
Researchers identified the chemical components of Jingqianshu Granules and tested its effects using laboratory and animal models. They measured levels of brain chemicals involved in mood and stress, measured the expression of specific receptor types in a particular brain region, and measured inflammation markers.
What they found
The medicine improved depression-like behavior, increased levels of two mood-related brain chemicals (allopregnanolone and serotonin), changed the pattern of brain receptors in the region studied, and reduced inflammation markers. Researchers identified 514 chemical components within the medicine, of which 20 were found in the blood after treatment, with 50% coming from two principal ingredients.
What it means for you
The medicine may work by changing brain chemicals and reducing inflammation in a specific brain region. However, these are findings from animal studies, not from women with PMDD. Human studies are needed to confirm the medicine helps women with PMDD.
