Randomised trial, 2022

Does PMS50 supplementation reduce psychological symptoms of premenstrual syndrome?

Yes, it helped several psychological symptoms like mood, anxiety, and irritability compared to placebo. The study was small, so we need larger trials to be sure.

Moderate study design 50 university students in Iran with moderate to severe PMS

What they did

Double-blind randomized trial where 50 university students in Iran with moderate to severe PMS took either 550 mg per day of PMS50 or placebo for one week before their period until the end of their period, for three consecutive cycles. Researchers measured psychological symptoms before and after.

What they found

The PMS50 group had significant improvements in depression, anger, hopelessness, desire to be alone, mood swings, irritability, anxiety, and poor concentration compared to placebo. Restlessness decreased in both groups equally. Low self-esteem, appetite changes, and food cravings dropped in both groups but were not significantly different between them.

What it means for you

PMS50 may help mood and anxiety symptoms, but the study was small (25 women per group) and conducted in one country, so results may not apply to everyone.
