Can online education about meditation help teenagers with premenstrual pain?
Online education about meditation for premenstrual syndrome increased teenagers' knowledge and was well-received, but this study did not measure whether actual pain decreased.
What they did
Researchers provided online education to teenage girls with premenstrual syndrome through WhatsApp over two weeks. They used videos, PowerPoints, leaflets, and live counseling to teach meditation for pain relief.
What they found
The teenagers gained knowledge about using meditation for premenstrual pain and found the online discussion format helpful for learning. Some participants had internet connection problems in their regions.
What it means for you
Online education about meditation appears accessible for teaching teenagers about managing premenstrual pain. However, this was an educational program, not a test of whether meditation actually reduces pain. We don't know if the teenagers' actual pain improved.
