Almost two-thirds of teenage girls in this school have PMS. It most strongly affects their friendships and school engagement, but less than 5% report low grades.
What they did
Researchers surveyed 119 teenage girls in grades 8-10 at one school in Tanahun, Nepal between July and September 2023. They asked about PMS symptoms and how PMS affected different areas of their lives.
What they found
64.7% had PMS (55.8% mild, 44.2% moderate). The most common impacts were impaired friendships (42.0%), reduced work performance (42.9%), reduced social activities (39.5%), and missing school (31.9%). Only 4.2% reported low academic grades.
