Survey study, 2018
How common are PMS and PMDD in Jordanian women, and how do they manage them?
Moderate to severe PMS affects 29% of Jordanian women and PMDD affects 14%. Most women use herbal remedies or take no medication.
What they did
300 premenopausal women in Jordan completed a questionnaire about their PMS and PMDD symptoms and described how they treat them.
What they found
Moderate to severe PMS was reported by 29% of the 300 women. PMDD was reported by 14%. Younger unmarried women were more likely to have more severe symptoms. Most women used herbal remedies to manage their PMS or PMDD, and many used no medication at all.
What it means for you
PMS and PMDD are common problems in Jordan but many women do not receive medical treatment. Healthcare providers may need better training to recognize and manage these conditions. The study was only in Jordan, so results may not apply to other countries.
